Why should engaged couples mediate?

Engaged couples should meet with a mediator so that the mediator can help them reach agreement -- or even just confirmation that they already agree -- on a whole host of issues that may come up during married life.  Drawing on the same decisions he must settle with divorcing couples, Mediator Matthew House assists engaged couples by asking them similar questions, except with the goal of engineering a happy union rather than facilitating the amicable end to a marriage that could have been saved (or, in some cases, wisely avoided) if those questions had been asked earlier.  Rather than being an opportunity to second-guess the engagement, mediation provides a chance to ensure an even stronger marriage.
